The two-year full-time programme in Business Economics is designed to meet the growing need for an analytical and quantitative approach to problem solving in the changing corporate world by the application of the latest techniques evolved in the fields of Economics and Management. A thoroughly revised syllabus for Masters in Business Economics (M.B.E) has been in place since 1996-1997. New papers on Global Finance, Business Policy, Environment Economics and Resource Management and Economics of Services have been included. In view of the changing business environment, the Department is in the process of revising the syllabus of the course. All students joining the course are required to undergo summer training for 6-8 weeks to put their theoretical concepts into practice. The interface of application-oriented programmes with the world of Business and Industry is further strengthened by weekly seminars, an Annual Convention, Industry Seminar in which students present papers before the members of the faculty and experts from the industry. The Department also arranges an Annual Convention every year wherein India’s business and trade relations with a selected country are discussed. The Department offers M Phil and Ph D programmes to which admissions are made in accordance with the rules of the University of Delhi.
The Department has introduced, with effect from 1995-96, an under-graduate Honours Course in Business Economics in selected colleges of the University of Delhi. An updated syllabus has been implemented from the academic year 2003. Workshops are organised to strengthen the teaching.
The current research interests of the Department include, Business Policy, Industry Studies, Regional Economic Development, Environmental Economics, Foreign Trade, Macro Economic, Policies, International Finance and International Marketing.
The Department arranges summer training and the final placement of students in industrial and commercial houses and reputed research organizations.
