The Department of English offers a two-year Masters Course comprising 12 compulsory courses and 4 optional courses chosen from the eight optional courses on offer. The syllabus focuses on the English literary tradition from Chaucer to modern times and opens up into various new areas such as Indian literatures in English and in translation, New Literatures in English, Literature and Gender, Literature and the Visual Arts, and Literary Theory.
Programmes leading to Ph D and M Phil degrees are also offered for which students are admitted through the North Campus. Students of the M Phil, which is a two-year programme, are required to complete a compulsory course in research methodology and seminar courses selected from a wide range available each year.
It is possible that some or all the teaching with respect to this Department may take place in the North Campus.
